its ok

This book is alright, got it based on a requirement for a lower level English lit class. Read through most of it in a single sitting (its really short). The book covers a wide gamut of Gothic literature, but doesn't get into too much detail. Its not a waste of money if you need it for a class, it IS however a waste of money if you seek deeper knowledge of the field of Gothic lit beyond just a simple introduction.

I purchased this book for a course I took on Gothic literature. The book covered the material I needed (but I can't say the professor did a good job). If you are interested in Gothic literature and want an overview, this is a good start. If you are unfamiliar with the material, find a good teacher to work with you at the same time, it is not an easy red.

As a person living in Victoria, this is undoubtedly the most contemporary and relevant biography I've read in a while. The book is easy to read and enjoyable. It was really interesting to learn about Christine Nixon's experiences growing up in a police family, the challenges she faced in the work force, and her views on people and topics that still make the news today. It's given me insights into some of the attitudes and behaviours prevailing within our community, and the challenges we face to improve and modernise. She's a pioneer and a great credit to all hard-working, community-spirited Australians. Highly recommend!

How interesting it is to browse my local well-known bookstores and receive blank stares on this book. This woman shook the establishment and the establishment has responded. That makes me more determined to read her story. Amazingly, I have to go to the USA to find it. What does that say about Australian society? It was available before Christmas, but hard to find now. Maybe hot news cools quickly. I don't know. Wish it was on Kindle. Good on you Christine, I watched your struggles on the news. You fought well with dignity and gallantry. But up against it.....

Erte began making a series of stunning sculptures to be published in polychromed bronze castings. The tremendous success of his bronze sculpture collection astounded Erte himself no less than it did the art world. To meet the demand, these editions grew from 250 to 500 copies - and the prices of the bronzes increased dramatically as the editions sold out. Illustrated in the pages of this volume are forty-one bronze sculptures, with two or three views of each, beautifully photographed in color by Lee Boltin. Erte himself has written an informative commentary on each subject. Also included are photographs of clay models for twenty-one works in progress.

I bought this for my girlfriend who is an artist and she absolutely adored this. Her favorite book as a child and young adult which had manipulated so many of her works is now in her hands. Every page is a sculpture and story behind Erte's thinking. This artist changed pop culture and design forever.

A serious reference work, not for browsers

This book raises space encyclopedias to a new level. Many previous books of this type have been collections of images interspersed with some lightweight text. Not this one. The French authors of this work go into considerable technical detail about the many topics they cover, including the celestial mechanics of artificial satellites, their orbits and ground tracks, and the trajectories of interplanetary probes. The authors focus primarily on scientific and applications missions, with relatively little attention to manned space programs. The world's launch vehicles and launch sites are covered thoroughly, as are earth observation satellites. The excellent charts and diagrams are detailed and comprehensive; the photographic images are well chosen and well reproduced.
Unlike many space-related books published in the United States, this encyclopedia does not focus on American space achievements. Its balanced perspective on world space programs may be a useful corrective.

This book contains many illustrations and photos and diagrams an in depth study. Although the information may be at times complex any reader can understand and appreciate the work scientists and engineers have achieved in this area of space exploration.

Never knew a whole lot about this part of the world

But now do---this is an overview of the islands of the Arctic Ocean, which includes Greenland, Svalbard (Norwegian Territory), the Russian Islands, and the Canadian Arctic Archipelgo. As most will probably know, Greenland, the largest Island in the world is a world of its own, but who's heard of Baffin Island, as large as Texas; Svalbard, where ther's an international effort underway to assemble a seed and tissue bank for the possible salvation of species that may be hard pressed to survive the probable effects of global warming.
But mostly I enjoyed getting a better look at places way, way off the beaten track.

Beautiful book of the Arctic islands

There's not a lot on the Russian islands, but plenty of general information, gorgeous photography, and coverage of Ellesmore through Franz Josef. Some of the visits, photos, and information date back to the 1970s and 1980s, but change is relatively slow up north. Save for the climate change which features prominently in the book, but is not the primary theme.

Awesome volume on the Arctic. This book is very informative to the Arctic fan. Everything you wondered about the islands of the Arctic, you will find here (from the Canadian Arctic archipelago, through Greenland and the Svalbard islands of Norway, to the eastern Siberian arctic islands). And along with much interesting texts, this book is also filled with superb and colourful photographs. Many of them, breathtaking. You will find numerous photos of the beautiful landscapes from the air, human settlements, fauna & flora, to even geology and glacier formations, etc. You will understand the geography and geology of the islands, the varied climate in this vast region, the history about exploration, life at this high latitude - both humans & nature, and much more. This is truly a great collection! Well worth the money.

About the Author
Professor Colker is one of the leading scholars in the country in the areas of constitutional law and disability discrimination. She is the author of eight books, two of which have won book prizes. She has also published more than 50 articles in law journals such as the Harvard Law Review, Yale Law Journal, Columbia Law Journal, Pennsylvania Law Review, University of Virginia Law Review, and University of Michigan Law Review. She has been a frequent guest on National Public Radio to comment on disability and constitutional law topics. Before joining the faculty at Ohio State, Professor Colker taught at Tulane University, the University of Toronto, the University of Pittsburgh, and in the women's studies graduate program at George Washington University. She also spent four years working as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the United States Department of Justice, where she received two awards for outstanding performance. Professor Colker was also a recipient of the University's Distinguished Lecturer Award in 2001, the University's Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award in 2002 and the University Distinguished Scholar Award in 2003. She is a 1978 graduate of Harvard University and a 1981 graduate of Harvard Law School.

About the Author
Timothy M. Devinney is Professor of Strategy at the University of Technology, Sydney. He is a fellow of the Academy of International Business, a recipient of an Alexander von Humboldt Research Award, a Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Fellow, an International Fellow of the Advanced Institute of Management (UK), and Distinguished Member (Fellow) of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management. He has published six books and more than eighty articles in leading academic journals.

Pat Auger is Associate Professor of Information Systems and e-commerce and Director of the Executive MBA Program at the Melbourne Business School, The University of Melbourne. He has published extensively in leading academic journals in a variety of disciplines including information systems, marketing, business ethics, and strategy.

Giana M. Eckhardt is Associate Professor of Marketing at Suffolk University, Boston. She has published widely on issues related to consumer behavior in China, branding, culture and globalization in Asia, and consumer ethics. Her research has been funded by and won awards from the Sheth Foundation and the Marketing Science Institute.

A must for everybody who is interested in ethical issues of consumer behavior and CSR

Do consumers really care where products come from and how they are made?
The Myth of the Ethical Consumer addresses an issue of increasing managerial
relevance and takes an innovative perspective regarding social aspects of
consumer behavior. Contrary to conventional wisdom and prior research, the authors show
that individuals "do not behave with general ethical intent but
with very specific choices related to the product at hand". The authors
authors demonstrate that "the ethical consumer is a myth" in the sense that it does not
account for the logic, manner and nature of consumer purchasing behavior. Furthermore, they "bring science to bear
on those parts of the myth that can be considered representative of a
truth about human behavior" and "guide corporate and public policy in an
informed way".

The book is extremely well-written and at the same time based on solid theoretical grounds
as well as a huge number of empirical findings. It is a clear must for everybody who is interested
in ethical issues of consumer behavior and CSR, including academics, students, and managers.

Just a bit of nit-picking

The Myth of the Ethical Consumer is an interesting take on a developing area of research and practice. The book is written in a very grounded style that appeals to both the researcher and the informed consumer. As the conversation surrounding social consumerism evolves, having critical assessment of the phenomenon is vital.

As a side-note, I would like to offer a suggestion to modify the recursive model in chapter 3. The term recursive model in the realm of structural equation modeling (SEM) refers to a model where the error terms are uncorrelated and all causal effects are unidirectional. In other words, a recursive model is a type of direct causal model. The model you propose is a non-recursive model; it is a model with feedback loops between variables (both endogenous and exogenous feedback loops).

A shift in titling will allow researchers familiar with SEM to correctly identify this theoretical model in possible future studies.

I highly recommend this book for those, such as myself, who are embedded in this area of research and practice.

Estuaries are of high socioeconomic importance with 22 of the 32 largest cities in the world located on river estuaries. About the Author
Arnoldo Valle-Levinson received a Ph.D. from the State University of New York in 1992 before going on to work at Old Dominion University (Norfolk, Virginia). He joined the University of Florida (Gainsville) in 2005 where he is now a Professor in the Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering. His research focuses on bathymetric effects on the hydrodynamics of estuaries, fjords and coastal lagoons. Professor Valle-Levinson is the recipient of a CAREER award from the US National Science Foundation, a Fulbright Fellowship for research in Chile, and a Gledden Fellowship from the University of Western Australia. He has worked extensively in several Latin-American countries, where he also teaches courses on estuarine and coastal hydrodynamics. He is also an associate editor for the journals Continental Shelf Research and Ciencias Marinas.
