Following a series of rhyming notes from her, he chases a pink-vested rabbit through an Easter wonderland. On this exciting treasure hunt, he encounters a 10-foot-tall chocolate Easter bunny, a noisy jelly-bean machine, a bustling egg factory, and an Easter Parade down Fifth Avenue that is filled with other holiday "things that just don't belong" (e.g., Santa, a leprechaun, a witch). At the end of his quest, Tommy is reunited with his clever aunt in the magnificent egg-shaped palace of the Great Easter Bunny. The vibrant computer-generated collages are reminiscent of the illustrations in the "I Spy" (Scholastic) books. Hidden in the eye-catching artwork are word puzzles (including Easter greetings in a number of foreign languages) and a collection of chicks, eggs, lambs, rabbits, and bonnets waiting to be found. Aunt Jeanne also appears one step ahead of Tommy on each page. Her final note supplies the answers to all of the puzzles. When Tommy awakens on Easter morning, he finds a note from Aunt Jeanne that tells him to follow the bunny (a la Alice in Wonderland). Each spread contains a rhyming clue set inside a yellow box on the page; the clues serve as the narrative string tying the hide-and-seek game together. The fanciful illustrations contain many Easter objects--from pysanky egg houses to colorful chickens laying patterned eggs. An opening poem suggests that children make a list of all the things they find, count all the gold eggs and chocolate bunnies, etc. The last page provides tallies and translations of the foreign phrases that appear throughout the book. The Perfect Gift To Leave In Your Young Readers' Easter Basket This Year...

Young Tommy awakes on Easter morning to find that his clever Aunt Jeanne is leading him on another one of her holiday-themed journeys. This one, however, leaves Tommy following a white rabbit in a pink vest through an Easter wonderland. Throughout Tommy's adventure, he meets up with a 10-foot-tall chocolate rabbit, encounters an egg factory, is introduced to a noisy jelly bean machine, and even attends an Easter Parade down Fifth Avenue. One that features many things that don't belong, such as Santa Claus, and a leprechaun. But it's not until Tommy makes it to the egg-shaped palace of the Great Easter Bunny that he is reunited with his beloved Aunt Jeanne.

Michael Garland is not only a talented artist, but wonderful at creating a holiday-themed I SPY-esque book that will keep young readers occupied for hours upon hours as they search for various hidden pictures. Tommy is a fun character who follows an adorable white bunny - a la ALICE IN WONDERLAND - in an attempt to meet up with the Great Easter Bunny himself, as well as his aunt. Garland shows here that he is a talented prose-writer, and weaves an entertaining story that must be read over and over again. If you're looking for a great Easter book for a young child buy this! We bought this book several years ago when my son was 3 and he still reads it. It's a fun story with lovely art and the kids love hunting for the eggs hidden in the illustrations.

About the Author
Thomas Pegelow Kaplan is currently Assistant Professor of Modern European History at Davidson College. He has also taught at Grinnell College and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he received his PhD. He was awarded a Miles Lerman Center for the Study of Jewish Resistance Fellowship by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and a Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. His articles have appeared in Central European History, Contemporary European History and Zeitgeschichte.

Healing for the Dying Through Psychedelic Therapy

In THE HUMAN ENCOUNTER WITH DEATH, Stanislav Grof, M.D. and Joan Halifax tell how psychedelic therapy can be used to help people with terminal illness.
One way the dying are helped by psychedelic therapy is in accepting their impending death. After a psychedelic-induced transcendent spiritual experience, a person can see their death not just as an ending, but also as a great adventure into the unknown. As a result, patients often have a new zest for life, and savor each moment more deeply, after a good therapy session.
Another effect of psychedelic therapy, and one which surprised me, was the temporary reduction in pain-perception that many people experience after a therapy session.
And this type of therapy also typically improves relations between the dying person and their family--a valuable asset since their remaining time together is probably limited to several months at most. (Incidentally, on rare occasions, in terminal cancer patients who have been undergoing psychedelic therapy, a spontaneous remission has occurred--but it happens too seldom to be in itself a reason for undergoing psychedelic therapy.)
In summary, as the authors say, "It is hard to imagine a more useful way to combine medicine, psychology, and religion than psychedelic therapy with dying individuals" (from chapter two).

This last volume should be useful not only to therapists, but also to the terminally ill persons who are undergoing psychedelic therapy. And the guidelines in LSD PSYCHOTHERAPY (as well as REALMS OF THE HUMAN UNCONSCIOUS) should be useful for conducting psychotherapy using the fully legal, ancient psychoactive herb Salvia divinorum (which has long been used for healing and divination by the Aboriginal tribe where the plant grows naturally in the mountains of Mexico). This is because the herb has effects in therapy--death-rebirth sequences, reliving childhood memories, and transcendent spiritual mystical or "peak" experiences--which seem to me practically indistinguishable from, and essentially the same as, what Grof describes for LSD-induced therapy.
Finally, while not specifically about end-of-life issues, the following are two books I especially like and so recommend in general for anyone interested in psychospiritual growth and healing. EMBRACED BY THE LIGHT is Betty Eadie's inspirational account of her profound near-death experience. And Sandra Ingerman's SOUL RETRIEVAL: MENDING THE FRAGMENTED SELF... is a modern shaman's story of how she helps people find their lost "inner child" soul parts--which have split-off due to childhood trauma--and begin to welcome these subpersonalities back home again.

About the Author
Tracey Ho is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the California Institute of Technology. In 2004, she was awarded a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT, and in 2005, was voted one of the 35 top technology innovators under the age of 35 by the Technology Review magazine.

Desmond S. Lun is a Computational Biologist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and a Research Fellow in Genetics at Harvard Medical School. In 2006, he was awarded his Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.

About the Author
Barry Kellman teaches international law and is Director of the International Weapons Control Center at DePaul University College of Law. He is also Special Advisor to the Interpol Program on Prevention of Bio-Crimes and senior chair of the American Bar Association Committee on International Law and Security. Professor Kellman's work focuses on biological terrorism. He served on the National Academies of Sciences Committee on Research Standards and Practices To Prevent the Destructive Application of Biotechnology (2003). He was Legal Adviser to the National Commission on Terrorism and was later commissioned by the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT) to draft Managing Terrorism's Consequences that reviews legal authorities responding to terror activity in the United States.

Great Read

Professor Kellman's book is both a great read and a thorough discussion on one of the most pressing security threats of our time. A biological attack has the potential to wipe out hundreds of thousands of lives and, when compared to nuclear armaments, is significantly easier for an aggressor to produce. It is no wonder that biological weapons are being sought by terrorist groups. Understanding this threat is integral for any would be political or business leader.

Comprehensive Book on Biosecurtiy

This is a comprehensive book on biosecurity even addressing the often ignored issue of counterproliferation worldwide. Because of that it is not very specific and some of the recommendations aren't very practical but such is academia. I do recommend the book as a good overview.

Fairman identifies the reconciliation between North and South as the most pressing issue during the Reconstruction. Accordingly, the Court was forced to mediate between the new liberties proclaimed by the post-Civil War amendments and enforcement measures and the structure of the federal system bequeathed to it by the Founders of the Republic.

About the Author
Charles Fairman (1897-1988) was Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and the author of Volumes 6 and 7 of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Devise History of the United State Supreme Court Reconstruction and Reunion: 1864-1888. He was also the author of numerous articles and books, including The Law of Martial Rule (1930) and Mr. Justice Miller and the Supreme Court (1939). In 1948 he published his casebook, American Constitutional Decisions, and a year later, he published his classic article, 'Does the Fourteenth Amendment Incorporate the Bill of Rights?'

Good Book!

Very good book. I use it at my school with the workbook where I am taking ESL. It is mostly used for a class on level 7 and not for beginners. The book comes with a CD for listening parts, has also, reading and writing exercises and the grammar is explained in a really simple way.
