Good explanation for a "PROOF" class, but also extremely helpful if you evidence professor is a stickler for things like "chains of inference" etc.... Great prep for trial advocacy as well. Easy read, easy identification of key terms, basically a lengthy hornbook for evidence/proof

This is the way to run a Company! The interests of employees, management, shareholders & clients, were held to be equal. If a lot more money was made on the project they would hand some back to the customer. They didn't save philanthropy for the end, they shared as they went so everybody was happy.
Lend lease had borrowings 19% of assets or less, so it survived the downturns & grew from small beginnings to a multi-billion dollar company. This book raises many ideas worth revisiting- I'm very glad I did.

About the Author
Brian Henderson is Professor of Cell Biology at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London and head of the Cellular Microbiology Research Group. He is the coauthor of Bacterial Disease Mechanisms (2002) and the coeditor of Bacterial Evasion of Host Immune Responses (2003). His major research interests are concerned with bacterial interactions with the host and how such interactions control inflammation and associated tissue destruction. It is through these studies that he identified that molecular chaperones are bacterial virulence factors and started his interest in the direct immunomodulatory actions of cell stress proteins. A. Graham Pockley is Professor of Immunobiology at the University of Sheffield Medical School and is head of the Immunobiology Research Unit. Professor Pockley has long-standing interests in the immunobiology of transplant rejection and his Unit is currently focussed on research relating to the biology and immunotherapeutic potential of heat shock proteins, particularly their involvement in the rejection of organ transplants and the development and progression of cardiovascular disease.

About the Author
Brian Catlos is an Associate Professor in the Religious Studies faculty at the University of Colorado, Boulder, with cross appointments in Humanities, History and Jewish Studies. Previously an Associate Professor of History at the University of California, he completed his PhD in Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto in 2000, followed by three years of postdoctoral work at the Concejo de Investigaciones Superiores in Barcelona and the Institute for Medieval History at Boston University. He has served as President of the American Academy of Research Historians of Medieval Spain and is Book Review Editor (late medieval) for Speculum. His fields of research include medieval Spain and the Mediterranean, and ethno-religious identity and relations in the pre-modern Christian and Islamic worlds.

This book was nothing like I was expecting it to be.

This book was nothing like I was expecting it to be. I was expecting Mermaids. I expected lots of romance. I expected predictability.

I'm not exactly sure why I thought mermaids. The summary says sirens, they live underwater, this is fantasy... I was not expecting the people of Atlantia to be humans living in an underground city.

I was expecting more romance than what was in this book. There was romance, and the part it played was very sweet and such a great part of the story but it was definitely not the main focus of the book.

I expected a predictable story line but I had no idea how this was going to play out and I was left guessing until the end.

I'm a fairly fast reader and this is not a long book but it took me a couple of days to read. Ally writes so beautifully that it is not a book to speed read through. Things move a little slowly especially during the first half of the book. This had lots more narration and way less dialogue than many young adult books. I didn't want to skim it or race through it so instead I took my time enjoying this one.

Atlantia really is a beautifully done story worth reading.

Difficult to Connect with Characters

Back in July, I was fortunate to receive a sneak peek of this book from NetGalley. After finishing it, I was definitely interested in reading the whole book, but found Rio's character to be flat and not very likeable.

After reading the complete book, my opinion about Rio didn't really change. Throughout the majority of the book, I thought her selfish and uncaring, using others to accomplish her goals with no regard for their feelings. In the last third of the book, her character began to mature as she saw a bigger view of the world, not just her own. Something I did enjoy about Rio was her reasoning in determining who she could trust - especially since her options were pretty limited. The relationships she shared with her mother and sister were also strong and I liked the emphasis on family ties.

True was the only supporting character who seemed to care about someone other than himself and learning he was hiding secrets of his own was a surprise. Maire's character was well-developed and very honest about who she was and I respected her for that, but she definitely wasn't a charmer.

The setting was unique and the storyline engaging, but the ending seemed a little too neat and tidy, so this book was just okay for me. Something just seemed to be missing.

An exercise in trying to stay awake

This was, essentially, a yawn-fest. Every time I would pick it up, I would get through 20-30 pages and then I would fall asleep (and it's not merely a figure of speech, I really could not get through more than 20 pages without drifting off). My eyes were literally tearing up from yawning, guys, this has never happened to me before - at leas not to this extent. Sadly, I was not able to get immersed in this story.

The concept was very exciting and the idea of an underwater city and a society that sacrifices itself so that others can survive and live peacefully was more than intriguing and promising. But the writing really dragged this book down to the bottom of the ocean. The pacing was slow, the narrative - redundant and boring, the characters lacked any kind of characteristics that would make me root for them, or even remotely care about their fates.

I was very determined to wait it out to see if the plot picks up and if anything exciting happens later, but the first 100 pages didn't offer much to go on, and so I lost hope. And interest. I'm sad that I didn't enjoy this book more, I had such high hopes for it (mainly because of the premise).

Read it if you don't mind slow pacing and unrelatable characters, maybe you'll have better luck with it. The concept is there and the imagery is nice, but the execution is lacking in many aspects. The world building is on a decent level - the mythology is interesting enough, though the way it is all packed into the first chapters of the book, makes it difficult to enjoy the plot.

For the great premise alone, I am giving it two stars instead of one.

About the Author
Anna O. Law is an Assistant Professor at DePaul University. She previously served as a Program Analyst at the United States Commission on Immigration Reform - a bipartisan, congressional blue ribbon panel charged with making policy recommendations to Congress and the White House. She was also an expert commentator in an award-winning documentary about the Supreme Court that aired on PBS channels nationwide in 2007. About the Author
Dr Wei Shyy is the Provost of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and formerly Clarence L. 'Kelly' Johnson Collegiate Professor and Department Chair of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. Shyy is the author or a co-author of four books and numerous journal and conference articles dealing with a broad range of topics related to aerial and space flight vehicles. He is General Editor of the Cambridge Aerospace Book Series (Cambridge University Press) and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the nine-volume Encyclopedia of Aerospace Engineering (2010). He has received the 2003 AIAA Pendray Aerospace Literature Award and the ASME 2005 Heat Transfer Memorial Award. He has led multi-university centers under the sponsorship of NASA, the US Air Force Research Laboratory and industry. His professional views have been quoted in various news media, including the New York Times and USA Today.

A user guide to be kept at your desk ;-)

The technical data is invaluable and the author condensed a vast technical material nicely in several chapters. If you are an aerospace scientist and doing daily engineering analysis this book is tailored to help you refresh your spacecraft dynamic and control methodology knowledge. Fairly easy to read and apply.

A great, practical text--M. J. Sidi has wisdom for both new engineers and seasoned professionals

Surprised Sidi's great text has no 5 star reviews yet. I discovered this book while I was working on a smallsat ADCS--my first assignment as a controls engineer where I carried any real responsibility. I had done my undergrad in physics and was still learning how to think like an engineer. Thanks to Sidi's practical and thorough discussion of attitude dynamics and control I was able to successfully complete this first assignment. Indeed, so much so that at the end of it my boss, who knew my background, met with me and asked "how the heck do you know so much about spacecraft dynamics?!". When I became a grad student I was the project manager for a smallsat attempt by Purdue, and also did specific research on ADCS which became my master's thesis and has produced peer-reviewed publications. Throughout all of that I kept a copy of Sidi on my desk and consulted it frequently. Everyone can learn something from this book, and I am sad I no longer have a copy--I will have to remedy that soon .

Practical coverage, few examples

This is a preliminary review as I am still going through the book. I had a few books I looked at from the library, but I picked this one since it seemed to move well between the theory and what situations are typical. The deficiency though, is that there are only a few worked examples mixed in with the chapter.
